Nowadays you can hardly find someone that doesn’t know the name of at least one Iranian food. Iranian are a good cook and they have a wide verity of foods. In cooking they always chose healthiest and nutrients foodstuffs. Also, a Persian chief usually uses meat and rice with different kind of spices the famous one is saffron.
For Iranians the food is not just a meal but rather a culture in which they use food to express their identity, community, values, status, power, artistry and creativity.
Foods are not as same, all are in new materials and new taste, local spices use in cooking, each city has local spices and vegetables. In addition to foods, there are many pickles and salads with many different content and compositions. We will have different salads as corn, lettuce, potatoes &cucumber, olive, yogurt with garlic.
It’s easy to find the most popular Iranian dishes that are specific to certain cities and you can easily find a restaurant for each one. “Dizi” or “Abgoosht”, “Fesenjan”, “Baghali polo”, “Ghormeh Sabzi”, “Chelow Kebab”, “Tahchin” and etc. Therefore don’t forget to have a list of Persian food you want to try with their names in Farsi. This way you won’t get confused with all the weird names on the menu.
In the history of Iran, the main food was bread and this is was the main course. Bakeries are other important urban elements of Iran. We have different types of bread such as: “Sangak”, “Barbare”, “Tafton” and “Lavash”.
In Persian food culture, we have dishes that may taste weird to others but in fact, they are adored by many Persians. “Kalle Pache” (the sheep’s head and hooves soup) which is typically eaten for breakfast, very early in the morning. An energy booster to lift you up through the day. There are particular restaurants that serve “Kalleh Pache”, and they are called “Kalle Pazi” or “Tabbakhi”. “Doogh & Gooshfil”, these two mates might seem a little bit irrelevant and weird, but believe it or not, after each bite of “Gooshfil”, having a sip of “doogh” would wash the sweetness down and makes it quite enjoyable!
When you are in Iran don’t forget about sweets. Don’t miss Persian Halva as a dessert after your meal. The history of ice cream in Iran dates back to 400 years B.C. which was made by mixing ice and the rose distillate and Faloodeh can be considered as the heir to that ancient ice cream, which today goes beyond the geographical borders and to the European countries. Darlish ice cream in France is a renowned brand that sells Iranian ice cream outside of Iran. One of the tastiest desserts you’ll eat in Iran is definitely Faloodeh. It has many kinds but the Shirazi versions is everyone’s favourite. Yazd is a great destination to buy your sweets for when you’re back home.
